The Polynesian god of war (Maori, Hawaiian, Ku) and sometimes mentioned as the first man. He quarreled with the gods, for such was his nature. He was cast out, exiled to the nether regions of darkness. One day, he gathered his forces, the shadowy hosts of Anu, and invaded heaven. After three fierce battles, the gods were finally able to defeat him and threw him back in the netherworld.
Tūmatauenga is the deity of war and people. Angry over the separation of his parents Ranginui (The Sky father) and Papatūānuku ( The Earth mother), Tāwhirimātea, god of the weather, waged war on his brothers Tane Nui a Rangi(god of the forest), Tangaroa(God of the sea) . He subdued a number of them, but Tūmatauenga proved his equal. From that time on there has been an ongoing battle between the weather (Tāwhirimātea) and people (Tūmatauenga).
Generals pray to Tu Matauenga with a specific karakia (a kind of hymn) so that he may join on their side.
Now thousands of years after his banishment to the netherworld by the gods he has broken free from the shackles that bound him there and now seeks to once again take gods out, but first he shall bring pain and suffering to those the gods protect.....mankind.
